Ulike Scientific Innovation Forum Connects Beauty Tech and Women’s Health
The Ulike Scientific Innovation Forum, themed The Science of Beauty: From Hair Removal to Anti-Aging, took place on 23 September 2026 in the Council Chamber of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in London. Founded in 1518, the RCP is one of England’s oldest medical institutions, with a longstanding role in advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care. Its historic medical setting provided the backdrop for an event exploring the science behind at-home beauty technology.
Under the theme “Science of Beauty, Care for Life”, the event brought together medical professionals, PMOS advocates, beauty and wellness creators, technology experts and media representatives for three keynote presentations, a panel discussion and interactive product demonstrations.
The forum explored the science behind at-home beauty devices, from how IPL works to the potential of light-based technologies and their connection to women’s health. It also offered a look at Ulike’s vision for the future of at-home beauty technology.
How Ulike’s Air 10 brings IPL technology into the home
IPL, or intense pulsed light, reduces hair growth by delivering broad-spectrum light to the skin. Melanin in the hair absorbs light energy and converts it into heat, which acts on the hair follicle. As hair grows in cycles, treatment results develop gradually over multiple sessions.
The forum’s second keynote was delivered by Dr Sina Ghadiri, a consultant dermatologist specialising in clinical and cosmetic dermatology. His presentation explored how IPL works, how light targets hair follicles and the clinical evidence surrounding the safety of at-home IPL devices.
The session also examined the technology behind the Ulike Air 10, which combines 26 J of energy output with Sapphire Ice Cooling Technology. The cooling system is designed to improve comfort during treatment, while IPL targets hair follicles. Together, these features address two important aspects of at-home hair removal: treatment technology and user comfort.
As with other IPL devices, suitability depends on factors such as skin tone and hair colour. Users should consult the device’s instructions and safety guidance before treatment.
Our guides to how IPL works and IPL safetyexplain these considerations in more detail.Guests had the opportunity to explore the Ulike Air 10, Air 10 Deluxe and Air 2 Max in the IPL Science Zone. All three models are available through the Ulike UK website.
Beyond IPL: Ulike’s ReGlow, JMOON and upcoming beauty technology
The third keynote, delivered by the GM of Ulike Europe, Matte Qian, outlined the company’s innovation roadmap, from its established IPL technology to its wider vision for at-home beauty. It introduced Ulike’s expanding focus on light-based skincare and anti-ageing technology.
That direction was reflected in the experience zones, where guests could try Ulike ReGlow and the JMOON by Ulike NouvelleSkin M12 Max (RD). Both devices were available for demonstrations, giving attendees a closer look at technologies designed for at-home facial care.
Ulike ReGlow is a four-mode LED light therapy mask designed around four skincare goals: firming, rejuvenation, breakout care and radiance. Its modes use red, yellow, blue and infrared light. The mask also features 272 LEDs and 360° Mirror Reflection Technology as part of its light-delivery design.
The showcase also featured the JMOON by Ulike NouvelleSkin M12 Max (RD), an at-home facial device combining radio frequency (RF), dual-frequency microcurrent and dual-wavelength LED light therapy. These technologies are integrated into one device, with treatment modes intended to address the appearance of fine lines, skin firmness and facial contours. Guests could try the device during the hands-on sessions.
The event also offered a preview of Ulike’s upcoming anti-ageing line, including concept devices and prototypes exploring light therapy, EMS and other technologies for at-home skincare. These emerging innovations formed part of Ulike’s broader vision for a one-stop home beauty technology ecosystem, distinct from products already available through its UK website.
Together, the product demonstrations and innovation preview illustrated Ulike’s expanding focus on at-home beauty, extending beyond IPL hair removal into facial skincare and other technology-led treatments.
PMOS, hormones and the connection between skin and hair
The forum’s first keynote connected beauty technology with women’s health. Titled “PMOS: Women’s Health Redefined”, the presentation was delivered by Dr Aliaa Ahmed, a general practitioner and skin health specialist, alongside Chand Kaur, Founder and Chief Executive of PCOS Relief, Ulike’s PMOS charity partner.
The presentation explored PMOS, the condition previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), including the terminology change, its epidemiology, and hyperandrogenism. Increased androgen activity can contribute to symptoms such as excess facial and body hair and acne, making skin and hair health relevant to the discussion.
The second part of the keynote, “Skin and Hormones: The Dermatological Face of PMOS”, examined the relationship between hormonal changes and visible skin concerns. Topics included the mechanisms behind hirsutism, or excess hair growth, and acne associated with PMOS. The session described the skin as an “endocrine mirror”, a visible reflection of physiological processes taking place within the body. Skin management for people living with PMOS was also covered.
By bringing these topics into a beauty technology forum, the keynote broadened the discussion beyond cosmetic concerns to include the hormonal factors that can influence skin and hair. This context is relevant to conversations about personal care, treatment expectations and wellbeing.
The session formed part of the forum’s wider theme, “Science of Beauty, Care for Life”, connecting skin science with women’s health. Ulike devices, do not diagnose, prevent or treat PMOS. Anyone experiencing persistent acne, unusual hair growth, or other symptoms of a possible hormonal condition should consult a qualified healthcare professional for assessment and advice.
Medical-grade efficacy and the future of at-home beauty
The panel, ‘Future of Home Beauty: Medical Grade Efficacy, Consumer Convenience’, brought together Matte Qian, Dr Aliaa Ahmed, Dr Sina Ghadiri, Chand Kaur, and popular UK-based influencer, SJ Unfiltered. The discussion formed part of the forum’s wider exploration of at-home beauty technology, its scientific foundations and its relationship with women’s health.
The panel’s theme brought two considerations into focus: the effectiveness of beauty devices designed for home use and the convenience of using them outside professional settings. These topics connected the product demonstrations with the forum’s broader emphasis on the science and safety of personal care.
The discussion also sat within the forum’s women’s health programme, which explored PMOS and its associated skin and hair concerns. Cosmetic devices do not replace medical assessment or treatment for an underlying health condition.Alongside the keynote presentations, the panel contributed to the forum’s wider examination of developments in beauty technology and the role of scientific perspectives in conversations about at-home treatments.
Inside the forum’s IPL cooling and skincare demonstrations
The forum’s experience zones gave guests an opportunity to explore Ulike’s devices firsthand, including the Air 10 IPL device and ReGlow LED light therapy mask.
At the Ice Cooling Experience, guests could try the Air 10’s Sapphire Cooling Technology. The demonstration offered a hands-on introduction to one of the device’s key features.
The thermal imaging station provided another interactive element, allowing guests to engage with technology through a camera-based demonstration.
Guests could also try Ulike ReGlow and the JMOON by Ulike NouvelleSkin M12 Max (RD), two devices designed for at-home facial care. ReGlow features four LED light therapy modes, while JMOON combines radio frequency (RF), dual-frequency microcurrent and dual-wavelength LED light therapy.
Elsewhere, the PMOS and Skin Science displays connected the product showcases with the forum’s women’s health focus, introducing guests to the relationship between PMOS, hormonal changes, and skin-related concerns.
Together, the experience zones complemented the keynote presentations by giving guests opportunities to interact with Ulike’s devices and explore the technologies featured throughout the forum.
Renew & Empower: Ulike’s women’s health initiative
The forum introduced Renew & Empower, a Ulike initiative developed in collaboration with PCOS Relief, a non-profit organisation founded by Chand Kaur that supports people affected by the condition.
The initiative connected the forum’s focus on women’s health with the knowledge and advocacy of people affected by PMOS. By bringing medical perspectives, patient experiences and beauty technology into the same conversation, the event created space to discuss the condition and its effects on skin, hair, confidence and everyday life.
Ulike also announced plans for a donation programme through its UK website to support PCOS Relief. The announcement extended the forum’s focus on women’s health beyond the event itself.
Renew & Empower adds a community-support dimension to the forum’s wider themes of beauty, skin science and wellbeing, connecting discussions about technology with the experiences of people affected by PMOS.
